About “Behind The Words I Feel”
The art of writing is a form of artistic expression in the Arab world. Arabic script conveys the importance of knowledge, emotion, and connection — it is as spiritual as it is artistic. Influenced by the beauty and serenity of Arabic calligraphy, a blend between language and abstraction, I began to write different phrases.
Flowing lines of Arabic cursive are often linked to the flow of breath; this collection is meant to conceptually symbolize the feeling of deep understanding for each phrase. My technique was to divide each piece into three portions: the top is to read, center is to think, and bottom is to feel. As the colors, text, and density amplifies with each line, viewers are meant to read then reflect. Starting off with a single sentence that is repeated over and over, until it is recited as a mantra. By the end, viewers are no longer meant to be reading, but instead truly feel the meaning behind the words.
